ARE YOU up to the challenge?
As Somerset’s leading independent recruitment agency Recruitment South West is pleased to be supporting a Somerset children’s charity.
For the second time this year we are delighted to sponsor a BIBIC fund-raising event.
Would-be daredevils from across the county have an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone by abseiling 120ft from Uphill Quarry in Weston-super-Mare on Saturday 16 September 2006 to raise money for the British Institute for Brain Injured Children.
The national charity, based on the outskirts of Bridgwater, offers practical help to families caring for children with conditions including Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy and autism.
Earlier this year a team of staff from Recruitment South West offices in Bridgwater, Taunton and Yeovil volunteered to accept the abseil challenge and take the plunge.
Dawn Catlow, Branch Manager at Recruitment South West in Bridgwater said, “Everyone who took part in May’s charity abseil said it was a fantastic experience that really got the adrenaline pumping!
“The team all felt immense satisfaction when they reached the bottom and felt inspired that their walk ‘over the edge’ had helped raise money for children with disabilities.”
The event at Uphill Quarry on Saturday 16th September is open to both complete novices and experienced abseilers. The entrance fee is £15 per person or £50 for a group of four which contributes to the cost of providing safety instructors and equipment for the day.
Participants receive a briefing from a qualified instructor at the launch site at the top of the quarry before being fully harnessed ready for their descent. Safety instructors then monitor their progress down the 120ft rock quarry face.
Caroline Drew, Managing Director of Recruitment South West said: “The abseil we sponsored in May proved great fun and raised £10,000 for a very good cause, helping children with a disability – it would be wonderful if the September abseil could raise even more.”
Teresa Wort, Regional Development Officer at BIBIC said, “We are appealing for people to step out of their comfort zone, sign up for the event and raise some money for some very special children. Just £50 could purchase sensory toys that give a range of experiences that many of us take for granted.”
